Alcala de Henares old town on Saturday. Visited Catheral: gothic and re-constructed after being gutted by Republican militia at the start of the Civil War.
Looked at outside of Archbishop's Palace: where Chritopher Columbus met Isabella of Castille for the first time. Then walked around remnants of old city wall.
Ferry from Portsmouth to Santander
Tuesday 6th to Tuesday 13th September 2016.
Pont Aven ferry departed 18.15 on 6th Septemer and arrived Santander 18.45 on the Wenesday. Drove to the Parador in Alcala de Henares arriving 02.00 Thursday 8th: nearly a5 hour trip.
Thursday 8th - explored historic centre of the town: Cervantes' birthplace, museum and University.
Madrid
Madrid 35 minutes by train from Alcala de Henares.
Had tickets for the Hieronimus Bosch exhibition at the Prado. Key painting: 'Thr Garden of Earthly Delightes' tryptich.
Spent 4 hours in Prado overall: iconic works seen include Velasquez Las Meninas and portrait of Count Duke of Olivares; Goya clothed and naked Majas, 2nd and 3rd May events; Titian Charles V equestrian; Tiepolo Immaculate Conception; Fra Angelico the Pomegranite; El Grco man with outstretched arm (got T shirt with this one).
