The Battle of the Somme

The battle was fought between 1st July and 18th November 1916. We arranged the showing of the original silent film as part of the 2016 Chelmsford Ideas Festival. Tickets were sold out quickly and 420 people attended the event.

The film was accompanied by music played by the Cambridge Concert Orchestra. Laura Rossi composed the musical score. Dr Toby Haggith and Laura introduced the film. They were joined by Ian Hook for a question and answer session afterwards.

An act of remembrance was led by the Royal british Legion.
